Gingerbread Houses

Use graham cracker squares and royal icing to set up the houses in advance. I used a pastry bag to squeeze small amounts of royal icing at a time as the children decorated with small candies, cereal, pretzels, etc.

Run Away Gingerbread Boys
In a large mixing bowl blend
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Butter or Margarine
1/2 cup Mild Molasses
1/4 cup Water

In another bowl mix together
3 cups Flour
3/4 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Ginger
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Allspice

Add to molasses mixture. Refrigerate untill chilled thouroghly. Roll out and cut cookies. Bake at 350. Read the story of the Gingerbread Boy while they are baking. Decorate when cooled.

Watch them carefully as they do tend to run away!

Icing for piping or spreading

4 cups Powdered Sugar
4 tbsp Butter or Margarine
2 tsp Vanilla
1/4 cup Milk

"Gg" is for Gingerbread Boy Puppets
Cut gingerbread boy cookie shapes out of brown construction paper. Cut white strips for "icing" with scalloped edge scissors. We stamped them with the letter G to reinforce our letter of the week.

Shouting "run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!
How many are left?(count)
Repeat until all Gingerbread boys have run away!
No more Gingerbread Men lying on a tray
They all jumped up and ran away!
Oh how I wish they had stayed to play
Next time I'll eat them before they ran away.
