We spend one week reinforcing each letter with crafts and activities after it is introduced.
"Aa" is for Apple Necklaces

Cut apple shape out of red construction paper or use white cardstock and let the children color them. Write the letter on the apple or paint stamp them. String colored pasta or cut straws with the little apples to make a necklace.

Let children make ant prints all over the letter with their fingerprints and black paint. When dry use a small tip marker to turn them into these cute little ants.

Ants & Letter A Sponge Painting
For these we made the oval ants from our insect theme page.Directions here.. Insect Theme Invest in some Alphabet and misc. sponges for crafts like this. They are about $2 or $3 per bag at Walmart. Also available from school supply stores. We use ours to make a page like this for every letter we are learning from September through May. Parents are encouraged to take them home and post them where the child can see and practice every day. When we finish the entire alphabet they can make them into a book or put them into a binder.
"A" is for Applesauce
Make homemade applesauce! Peel apples, making the skin as long as possible. Invite the children to dunk the peel into a mixture of cinnamon & sugar, then eat the peels. Core & cut apples into quarters - ask the children to help cut the fruit using plastic knives. Place the apples in a saucepan or crock pot with a small amount of water. Cover and simmer until the apples are tender, about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally while cooking. Allow to cool and mash with a potato masher or in a blender. Add a small amount of cinnamon and sugar to taste. Serve in paper cups.
Group Time Activity
"Aa" is for Acting Like Animals
