Letter "Qq" Recognition Craft Projects & Activities
We spend one week reinforcing each letter with crafts and activities after it is introduced.
"Qq" is for Queen
Paint childs four fingers gold for the crown and the palm flesh color for the queen's face (no thumb). When dry add jewels to the crown and draw a face. We glued ours to a craft stick to make a puppet.
"Qq" is for question mark.
Print a page of question marks using a very large font to cut and glue to the letter.
Other ideas for collaging with letter Qq,
Quail - print pictures of quail and glue to the letter,
Quilt - cut fabric or wallpaper scraps and glue to the letter.

Carl's Corner Letter Q - This comes with a sheet to color, cut, and paste to the letter.
Letter Q & Quilt Sponge Painting
Invest in some Alphabet and misc. sponges for crafts like this. They are about $2 or $3 per bag at Walmart. Also available from school supply stores. We use ours to make a page like this for every letter we are learning from September through May. Parents are encouraged to take them home and post them where the child can see and practice every day. When we finish the entire alphabet they can make them into a book or put them into a binder.
Group Time Activity
Quacking for Q's
Print different capital and lowercase letters of the alphaet on index cards. Make several more of the letters Q and q. Hold up the letters and ask children to quack if they see the letter Q or q. You can also say words that begin with q, and have children quack if they hear the qua sound.
Quill Pens Explain to children that a long time ago, people didn't write with pencils and pens like they do today. They used something called a quill. A quill is a feather that was sharpened at the end and then dipped in ink. Set out several long, clean craft feathers for children to exeriment with, dipping them in paint and writing designs on paper. Encourage thm to try writing their names and different letters of the alphabet.
